Wins Top Follow-up Award From BP Conservation Programme (2003)
The
2003 awards were announced on June 24th, at
the American Museum of Natural History in New
York by guest of honour, Geoffrey Sachs, economist
and director of Columbia University’s Earth Institute.

projects have been given support totalling US$565,000. Two Consolidation
Awards of US$75,000 given to the best continuing conservation
projects that the Programme has helped to seed since its inception
have been won by projects in Columbia and Madagascar; six
Follow-up Awards amounting to £189,000 have been
given to the best proposals for follow-up work submitted by
one of the previous years’ winners; and 24 awards totalling
£226,000 have been given to first year projects, divided
into Gold, Silver and Bronze categories.
The
winning projects are based in 21 countries and will be carrying
out work ranging from monitoring of globally threatened bird
species in Central Kazakhstan to enhancing community participation
in sea turtle conservation in Kenya.
