The Centre of Environmental Science (CML) is an institute of Leiden University whose main area of work is research and education in the field of environmental science. In 2001, there are 50 persons employed including 30 scientific staff. The interfaculty character reflects itself in the various staffmembers' backgrounds, such as: ecologists, chemists, anthropologists and sociologists.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is mandated to be the primary agency responsible for the conservation, management, development, and proper use of the Philippine ’s environment and natural resources.

Melbourne Zoo is Australia's oldest zoo and was modeled on London Zoo. It is reputed to be the eleventh oldest zoo in the world. The zoo was opened on the Royal Park site of 55 acres (22 hectares) in 1862 on land donated by the City of Melbourne. Before this, animals were housed at the botanical gardens in Melbourne.
